Suricata suricatta
South-African Mongoose, aka Stokstaartje
(Zool.) Stout-bodied, head rounded with short pointed snout. They are entirely diurnal, in pairs of small parties feeeding in region of burrows, frequently sitting up like manikins to keep watch. At times 10-30 animals live in a colony with several shelters, in rock crevices or more usually in burrows, each with several tunnels. When alarm is given they growl, erect their hair and make stiff-legged jumps as threat.
